Termites do over $1.5 Billion in Property Damage a Year.
Is Your Home or Business at Risk?
It's no secret that Florida has its share of bugs. But when it comes to termites, these pesky insects are more than just a nuisance; they can cause significant and costly structural damage. According to the National Pest Management Association, subterranean termites cause more than $5 billion in property damage each year -- that's more damage than fires, floods and hurricanes combined!
Appropriate termite treatment and control first requires proper identification of the species. In Florida, property owners are likely to encounter one of the following species at some point:
- Eastern subterranean termites
- Florida dampwood termites
- Formosan subterranean termites
- Drywood termites
- Powderpost beetles
Subterranean termites live underground and build colonies in soil, while drywood termites live solely in wood.
There is a common misperception that termites are active only in the spring because that is when swarms occur. But they actually are active year-round.
Signs that you may have termites:
- Discarded wings on window sills, countertops, floors and other surfaces, or groups of dead winged insects.
- Frass- drywood termites create droppings that are wood-colored as they eat wood.
- Wood that sounds hollow when tapped on. This could be a sign that termites are eating the wood from the inside out.
- Paint on wood surfaces that appears distorted or cracked.
- Mud tubes on exterior walls. These tubes provide moisture while subterranean termites search for food.
Inspecting for termites is a job best left to state-certified, licensed, insured, and well-trained professionals who go where most homeowners don't want to go.
We will visually inspect inside and outside your home, in your attic and in all crawl spaces to check for termites. We also check freestanding structures, such as sheds, docks and garages.
Annual termite inspections are recommended, due to the constant threat termites pose to structures.
Our Winter Haven termite treatment experts are authorized in Termidor application and advanced termite bait systems for subterranean termites.
Termidor, Americas #1 termite/insecticide is an advanced undetectable, non-repellent liquid that has a number of flexible application options. If there are no active termites in your home, Termidor will help ensure there won't be any in the future. But if your home does have an infestation, Termidor is the only solution we will use.
With Termidor, termites cannot see, smell, taste or avoid it when it is applied. With some applicators, termites will simply die upon contact, Termidor goes beyond that. When a termite ingests or touches Termidor they become "carriers", behaving normally as the slow-acting liquid is transferred to other termites, resulting in maximum destruction.
Bait systems require no trenching, drilling or expensive equipment and therefore are a less intrusive treatment form. They also can be helpful when used as monitoring devices to identify a termite problem before the insects reach your home.
Call us to schedule your termite inspection. We will treat your structure for termites if activity is detected, and we will put you on an annual schedule to ensure that every effort is made to keep termites at bay.
